About Harbour Air |
|
Harbour Air is the leading all-seaplane airline in
the world. Founded in 1981 by three forward-looking pilots who saw an
opportunity on Canada's Pacific Coast to create an airline to service the
British Columbia forest industry. The partners purchased two floatplanes and set
up shop in an old floating office on the waterfront of Vancouver Harbour. |

The airline began a scheduled service to the Gulf Islands and opened a second
waterfront terminal at the Vancouver International Airport. A full program of
sightseeing tours was initiated, and by 1990 Harbour Air had become a
substantial component of the aviation industry, operating 25 aircraft along the
coast of British Columbia. Today the fleet includes DHC2 Beavers and DHC3
Turbine Single Otters.
Business in Victoria warranted the creation of a base in the capital city, and
by the spring of 1992, sightseeing flights began. Growth did not cease there,
however. In the spring of 1993, Trans Provincial Airlines, which operated from
Prince Rupert in Northern British Columbia, was purchased by the company.
Operational bases were then established on the Queen Charlotte Islands at
Sandspit and Masset, with the northern regional headquarters remaining in Prince
Rupert.
With bases already established in both Vancouver and Victoria, Harbour Air
launched a scheduled service between these two largest cities in the province.
Scheduled service and sightseeing tours were now the major components of the
company's operations. Following this trend the airline began a service between
Vancouver and Nanaimo,on central Vancouver Island.
Today Harbour Air is the largest all seaplane airline in the world. Expansion
has given the company bases across the entire of coast of British Columbia.
Harbour Air customers can experience adventure in the Khutzeymateen - Valley of
the Grizzly Bear in Northern British Columbia, search for Orcas off the shores
of Victoria, or spend an afternoon on a secret lake north of Vancouver enjoying
a picnic lunch. With such a long history and tradition, Harbour Air Seaplanes
has worked hard to become “Your Seaplane Professionals”.
